Sora discontinued

OpenAI CEO Fidji Simo was cited last week that they “actively looking at which areas to deprioritize” in the face of Anthopic gaining market share. The same WSJ article identified Sora as one area they are looking at:

OpenAI launched its stand-alone Sora app last September, pairing its AI video generator with a new social-media app similar to TikTok. It briefly secured the top spot in Apple’s App Store, but usage flatlined in the months that followed. The company is now looking to integrate video-generation features into its main ChatGPT app.

Now, the Sora team has shared that the app will be discontinued, but details - including timelines and API availability - are lacking as of now:

The Sora app was never available in the EU. API access to other discontinued OpenAI models has historically been prolonged through Microsoft Azure, and the deprecation page currently doesn’t list Sora 2.
