Amazon Nova team disbanded?
Reuters reports that “Amazon cut jobs in its artificial general intelligence group”:
"We’re sharpening our focus on the initiatives that matter most for customers, so we can move faster on what counts. That focus means some difficult decisions, including eliminating some roles within parts of our AGI organization."
Andrew Curran made the connection that the AGI organization is behind Amazon’s own Nova models - the ones that are offered as GPAI alongside e.g. Anthropics models on Amazon Bedrock:
That people on the pretraining side are being let go could mean that Nova is discontinued.
Posts on LinkedIn imply that not everyone was let go, though:
Amazon’s Nova models were neither competitive on cost or capability, so were already superseeded through Amazon’s Bedrock Mantle Model catalog by third party model makers.
